Mindful Meditation for All, facilitated by: Rachael Van Tassel, LPC, Certified Art Therapist ATR-BC at Wellness Arts Center, 200 Lake Avenue, Montrose, PA is a weekly opportunity on Mondays, for both beginners and the experienced to come together in a neutral space to experience meditation. The first session begins Monday, September 9 from 6:30-7:30 pm.

Mindful meditation is about bringing awareness to the present. This weekly gathering will be about creating space to be and taking a respite from the constant pressures of doing. The intention is that with regular meditative practice, one can release stress, increase relaxation, and find space to breathe in a busy world.

Each hour-long session will include a brief introduction followed by 4 sections of varied meditations, beginning with meditating on an anchor and ending with a Loving-Kindness meditation. This weekly gathering focuses wholly on experiencing and practicing meditation. Join the circle to experience meditation for the first time, to build a routine for meditating, and to connect quietly with others who have a shared resolve for integrating both self-care and empathy. Classes are geared towards adults and older teens, and no experience is necessary. Cost: $10 per class.

Increasing research studies in meditation have shown that a regular practice of meditation can decrease stress and anxiety symptoms. Mindful meditation supports enhancing self-awareness which helps to improve emotional well-being and generate kindness towards others. Studies have also found a regular practice of meditation can boost attention span, improve memory loss, improve sleep, lower blood pressure, and improve pain management.

Rachael is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 15+ years of experience in the field. Her mindful and meditative journey began in the early 2000’s with training in and implementing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy which uses mindfulness practices focused on emotion management. Rachael has continued to broaden her knowledge, understanding, and experience of mindfulness and meditation over the years through training in and experiencing Mindfulness Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.
